Scout Motors is developing two American-built adventure vehicles: the Traveler SUV and Terra pickup. Production is targeted for 2027 at a new South Carolina plant, while a retail price below $60,000 is the company’s stated goal. Treat both as planning markers, not guaranteed delivery terms.
Two powertrain paths
Scout targets up to 350 miles for fully electric models and more than 500 miles for versions with a gasoline range extender. Both figures are preliminary. The platform is planned around NACS, an 800-volt architecture, charging up to 350 kW and bidirectional capability.
Built for heavier work
Body-on-frame construction, a solid rear axle and mechanical lockers point toward real trail and towing ambitions. Scout’s preliminary targets exceed 10,000 pounds for Terra towing and 7,000 pounds for Traveler, with nearly 2,000 pounds of payload. Final certified ratings will matter more than reveal numbers.
Reservation checklist
Before placing money, read refund terms, production-priority language and whether the reservation locks anything beyond a place in line. Do not build a trade-in or relocation budget around a targeted incentive, delivery date or fuel-cost estimate.
Our take
The range-extender choice may appeal to rural drivers who tow or have uneven charging access. Once production specifications arrive, compare fuel use with trailer load, home-charging cost, insurance, tires and service distance—not only the no-trailer range headline.
