The R2 launch is a staircase, not one single arrival date. Rivian plans a $57,990 Performance model first, followed by a $53,990 Premium in late 2026. The R2 Standard is scheduled for the first half of 2027 at $48,490, while an approximately $45,000 version is planned for later that year.
Know which range number belongs to which trim
Rivian estimates up to 345 miles for the single-motor, rear-wheel-drive Standard. The Premium is listed at up to 330 EPA miles. Until the exact Standard configuration receives final ratings, compare estimates and certified values on separate lines.
Waiting has a value—and a cost
A later, lower-priced trim may save money, but it can also change equipment, delivery timing and trade-in value. If you need a vehicle sooner, compare the full cost of keeping your current car with the premium paid to take an earlier R2.
Our take
Rivian is finally showing how the promised affordability could unfold. Budget from the trim you can actually reserve, add destination, taxes, insurance and home charging, and treat late-2027 price and range figures as targets until a final order agreement says otherwise.
