BMW is adding all-wheel drive to the M2 for the first time. The 2027 M2 with M xDrive starts at $73,600 before a $1,350 destination charge and is planned to reach the U.S. market in late summer 2026.
It is still designed to feel rear-driven
The system is rear-biased and can send power forward when needed. Drivers can also select a 2WD mode after disabling stability control. BMW pairs the setup with a 473-horsepower inline-six and estimates a 3.6-second run to 60 mph.
Performance costs continue after purchase
Get quotes for insurance, staggered performance tires, wheels, brakes, premium fuel and any track-use exclusions. A quick acceleration figure does not show the replacement cycle for consumables or the cost of repairing large wheels after a pothole.
Our take
M xDrive may broaden year-round usability without erasing the M2’s rear-drive flavor. The smart comparison is against both the rear-wheel-drive M2 and similarly priced performance cars using total annual cost and the same option level.
